Speaking during a debate regarding President Bola Ahmed’s request for the supplementary budget on Tuesday, Barau explained that it’s a regular practice for a “new government to request a new appropriation.”

Barau stated, “We all understand that when a new government assumes office, it’s customary for that government to propose a supplementary appropriation bill to align its administration’s activities with the policies and programs of the new government.

“Typically, this type of supplementary appropriation bill is presented to the National Assembly for approval within the first or second month of a new administration.

However, this government chose to take its time to assess its challenges and areas requiring funding.

“It assessed its challenges in the areas of insecurity, agriculture, and infrastructure and concluded that this bill should be presented for approval.
