While appreciating the significant contributions of stakeholders towards eradicating cancer in the nation, he appealed for support for cancer patients and stressed the importance for industry participants to influence cancer-related policies.

Senator Bagudu made this plea during a cancer awareness walk organized by the Medicaid Cancer Foundation in Abuja.

He highlighted that the #WalkAwayCancer event symbolizes unity, determination, and a collective commitment to lessening the cancer burden in Nigeria.

The 5km WalkAwayCancer march drew cancer awareness enthusiasts, survivors, caregivers, and policymakers to the streets of Abuja, a significant step in drawing attention to cancer control endeavors.

The long-distance walk aimed to boost awareness against the cancer menace in the country, starting from Libreville Street in Wuse 2.

Additionally, medical expert Dr. Zainab Shinkafi Bagudu advocated for routine cancer screenings by everyone, cautioning that the primary challenge in the battle against cancer is the late detection of the majority of cases.

Dr. Bagudu, also the CEO of Medicaid Cancer Foundation, emphasized that early detection of the disease is pivotal in lowering the cancer mortality rate in the country.

“This event underscores our unwavering commitment to raising awareness and combating cancer. The tremendous support we received signifies the increasing recognition of the significance of early detection, prevention, and support for those affected by this disease.

“Regular screenings, available and sometimes free, including self-examinations, particularly self-breast examinations every month, are crucial in early cancer detection,” she advised.
