for lawmakers amid the nation’s hardship, Labour Party (LP) senator representing Edo South senatorial district, Neda Imansuen, defended the party’s stance, emphasizing that criticisms against LP senators who chose not to reject the cars were unjust.

Imansuen, who chairs the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions, stated that if the issue were presented in the Senate, LP senators would oppose it.

While justifying his colleagues’ position on procuring the luxury vehicles, he stressed that as minority representatives in the Senate, LP members could only voice their opinions while the majority decides.

Speaking in Benin, Imansuen dismissed rumors about his supposed defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC) as tactics from the opposition to sow discord within the LP.

He clarified, “I want to state that I haven’t received any SUVs, nor have any been offered to me. In a democratic parliament, the principle often echoes that ‘the majority will prevail, and the minority will express their viewpoints.’

We can only voice what we deem right in the legislature; we are just eight senators among 109. Hence, singling out Labour Party senators is very unfair.”
