The SDP is urging the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to recognize Ajaka as the legitimate governor-elect, and it is preparing evidence for a legal challenge against the APC.

INEC officially declared the APC candidate victorious with 446,237 votes, surpassing the SDP candidate, who secured 259,052 votes.

The National Chairman of the SDP, Shehu Gabam, expressed disappointment at what the party perceives as a disregard for the rule of law and announced their determination to challenge the election results.

Addressing the media on Friday, Gabam stated, “We in SDP disagree; we are sad, we are disappointed at this level of civilization, this level of developing our democracy, that such a brazen disregard for the rule of law is still accepted. We will not leave it; we will challenge it, and we are putting all our facts together.”

He emphasized the importance of the President’s integrity being tested, expressing concern about potential threats to democracy and the prevalence of impunity.

Gabam highlighted the need for accountability, particularly in light of INEC’s acknowledgment that some of its officers compromised.

He called for the arrest of the implicated officers and commended the security forces for their apparent non-compromise in Kogi State.
