The Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) announced the confiscation of 249 counterfeit vehicle plate numbers and 149 Minimum Safety Standard (MSS) stickers in a recent statement. During a spot check at the MPS Pregate, NPA officials and security agents uncovered the fake vehicle plate numbers and MSS stickers. Additionally, a separate terminal investigation exposed 164 vehicle number plates and 133 MSS stickers that were not affixed to any trucks, indicating potential misuse for proxy bookings.

The statement highlighted the exploitation of the Eto system by unauthorized individuals, resulting in inflated prices for the electronic call-up service—from the initial N21,500 charged by Truck Transit Park Limited (TTP) to exorbitant amounts reaching N150,000 per call-up.

To address this issue, the NPA emphasized its commitment to combatting activities aimed at sabotaging the electronic traffic management system. The terminal manager associated with the discovery has been summoned for questioning, and the seized counterfeit items have been confiscated.

The NPA reaffirmed its dedication to the e-call-up project, emphasizing its role in eliminating human interference in traffic management around ports and mitigating the adverse impact of traffic gridlock on the national economy. The agency expressed determination to consolidate the e-call-up project and other process automation initiatives, ultimately fostering the growth of the maritime sector to its maximum potential.
