Idris Ibrahim, the officer in charge of intoxicants for the board, revealed this to reporters over the weekend, stating that the seizure of alcoholic beverages occurred last Thursday at Kwanar Dangora village along the Kano-Kaduna expressway.
According to Ibrahim, the Hisbah operatives had been monitoring the vehicle’s movement from Kaduna until it crossed into Kano territory.
“We intercepted the vehicle at Kwanar Dangora village, and although the driver attempted to flee, our operatives apprehended him,” Ibrahim explained.
He reiterated that the sale and consumption of beer are prohibited in Kano State, emphasizing that the driver would be taken to court after providing his statement.
Ibrahim further mentioned that the Hisbah team responsible for addressing intoxicants at the board was awaiting further directives from the Hisbah management.
Additionally, the Hisbah agency detained 15 young women on suspicion of engaging in prostitution during operations conducted in various parts of Kano City.
The arrests, reportedly made in Hotoro Tishama, Bakin River Verd Sabon Gari, Miyangu Road, Hadejia Road, and old Zoo Road motor parks, were confirmed by the board’s Deputy Commander-General, Dr. Mujahid Aminuddeen.
Aminuddeen noted that some of the accused prostitutes had previously been arrested and prosecuted but continued to partake in the illicit trade.
“It’s regrettable that some of these women leave their states and countries to engage in prostitution and other illicit activities in Kano. They roam the streets and engage in various forms of misconduct,” Aminuddeen remarked.
He urged the public to continue reporting such activities to enable the state to be sanitized.
“However, some of these women also require support and prayers because conversations with them reveal that they find themselves in such situations due to hardship,” Aminuddeen added.
