Tinubu Sets The Record Straight On N3.7 Trillion Budget Padding Allegations
President Bola Tinubu has asserted that those making claims of exaggeration in the 2024 budget lack comprehension of basic arithmetic principles.
Recalling the controversy surrounding the 2024 budget, particularly the assertions by Senator Abdul Ningi from Bauchi Central, who alleged that over N3.7 billion in the budget lacked project allocation, the situation led to his three-month suspension and sparked widespread reactions across Nigeria.
Addressing the issue during a dinner hosted for the Senate leadership to mark the breaking of Ramadan fast at the State House in Abuja on Thursday, Tinubu assured the lawmakers of their unblemished integrity.
“I am well-versed in the budget arithmetic and the figures I presented to the National Assembly, as well as the figures returned to me. I extend my gratitude for the swift handling of the budget. Thank you very much,” Tinubu stated.
“For those alleging malicious inflation in the budget, they misunderstand the arithmetic and fail to reference the baseline figures I provided. Nevertheless, your integrity remains intact.
“I appreciate your efforts. We are on the brink of overcoming the current economic challenges. Our revenue has seen improvement. All we need to do is exercise expenditure control and improve our management,” the President affirmed.
Tinubu also expressed gratitude to the National Assembly for promptly attending to the Students Loan Amendment Bill, urging greater tolerance, forgiveness, and benevolence during Ramadan.
