Nigerian Navy Busts Illegal Fuel Depot In Lagos, Arrests Five Individuals....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

In a recent operation, the Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) Beecroft uncovered an illegal fuel depot at No 3 Silver Bird Road, Ilasun Lekki, Lagos State, resulting in the arrest of five individuals. Led by syndicate leader Ahmed Ariyo, the suspects were caught red-handed engaging in illicit activities within a private apartment, as announced by Lieutenant Hussaini Ibrahim, spokesperson for NNS Beecroft.

The breakthrough was revealed during a press briefing by Commodore Rafiu Taye Oladejo, Commander of NNS Beecroft. Acting on credible intelligence regarding suspicious activities at Elegushi Beach, the Navy swiftly deployed its Quick Response Team to the area, leading to the successful discovery and apprehension of the suspects.

According to Commodore Oladejo, the illegal fuel depot comprised eight storage tanks, each capable of holding 50,000 litres of AGO (Automotive Gas Oil), totaling approximately 57,000 litres. Additionally, a tanker containing 7,000 litres and a bus loaded with 30 jerry cans, amounting to around 1,500 litres, were seized at the site. The total value of the confiscated AGO is estimated at 89 million Naira based on current market prices.

Further investigations suggest that the suspects may have obtained the fuel through pipeline vandalism, illegal sea vendors, and other illicit means along the coastline. Commodore Oladejo reiterated NNS Beecroft’s commitment to combatting oil theft and maritime crimes in alignment with directives from the Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ikechukwu.

In a bid to uphold law and order, the suspects, along with the seized products and facility, have been handed over to the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps for thorough investigation and potential prosecution. This decisive action underscores NNS Beecroft’s dedication to safeguarding the Lagos maritime environment and fostering socioeconomic growth.
