Lagos Court Sentences Man To Nine Months In Jail For Attacking Government Official And Highway Misconduct
A man identified as Paul has been sentenced to nine months in prison by a mobile court in Oshodi for both assaulting personnel of the Lagos Environmental Sanitation Corps and failing to utilize a pedestrian bridge. Tokunbo Wahab, the Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, announced this development via his social media handle on Thursday.
According to Wahab, Paul was apprehended on April 16 for disregarding the pedestrian bridge at Agbado Oke Odo and, in the process, assaulting and injuring a LAGESCOfficial (KAI) enforcement personnel. The verdict was delivered by the mobile court sitting at Oshodi on the preceding day.
This sentencing comes in the wake of warnings issued by the ministry urging residents to adhere to the use of pedestrian bridges, citing the crossing of major highways in the state by pedestrians as a punishable offense.
Earlier reports by PUNCH indicated that the state government had arrested and arraigned 76 individuals for neglecting to use pedestrian bridges in the Ojota, Ladipo, and Oshodi areas. Additionally, in March, a 22-year-old woman named Fasia Ajoke received a seven-month and three-week prison term for assaulting a female LAGESC officer and resisting arrest, all while refusing to utilize a pedestrian bridge.
Deborah Sanusi, with close to two years of media experience, contributed to this report which highlights human interest stories with a focus on metro reporting.
