The EFCC issued a bulletin on Thursday urging anyone with information regarding Bello’s whereabouts to promptly report to the Commission or the nearest police station.

The Federal High Court in Abuja had scheduled a hearing for Yahaya Bello on April 23, but the proceedings were adjourned as Bello was notably absent from court. This absence halted the planned arraignment, as reported earlier by SaharaReporters.

Representing the EFCC, Kemi Pinheiro expressed frustration over Bello’s absence and suggested that he was shielded from arrest by someone with immunity, who whisked him away in an official vehicle.

Pinheiro hinted at the possibility of seeking military assistance to apprehend Bello for arraignment, given the obstruction faced by the EFCC.

Bello’s legal team argued that he had obtained an ex parte order from a High Court preventing his arrest and prosecution by the anti-graft agency, a move contested by the EFCC in the Court of Appeal.

In a dramatic turn, Justice Emeka Nwite of the Federal High Court in Abuja granted the EFCC permission to arrest Yahaya Bello, paving the way for his eventual arraignment.

Despite facing resistance in executing the arrest warrant, particularly from Kogi State’s current Governor, Usman Ododo, the EFCC maintained its resolve, emphasizing that Bello is not immune to the law and will be brought to justice without delay.

The EFCC, through its Head of Media & Publicity, Dele Oyewale, announced that Bello, alongside three other suspects, including his cousin Ali Bello, Dauda Suleiman, and Abdulsalam Hudu, will face a 19-count charge of money laundering totaling N80,246,470,088.88.

This development follows a warrant of arrest and enrollment order granted to the EFCC by the court, underscoring the agency’s determination to pursue justice and hold accountable those implicated in financial malfeasance.
