In a statement delivered by Yahaya Alhassan, Chairman of the IPMAN Depot Chairmen Forum, the association highlighted the failure of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) to address the long-standing debt, which has been accruing since September 2022.
The debt primarily stems from outstanding bridging claims, payments made by the government to oil marketers for transporting petroleum products from depots to various regions across Nigeria.
Expressing grave concern over the ramifications of the debt’s non-payment, Alhassan emphasized the potential closure of every IPMAN outlet nationwide, emphasizing the dire consequences such actions would have on Nigerian citizens.
Despite previous efforts to engage with NMDPRA regarding the debt settlement, including directives from government officials, Alhassan lamented the agency’s lack of responsiveness and the meager progress made in clearing the debt.
With patience wearing thin, IPMAN implored President Muhammadu Buhari to intervene urgently, highlighting the pressing need to address the situation to avert further economic hardship.
Should their demands remain unmet, IPMAN warned of a coordinated shutdown of operations across the country until the debt is resolved, signaling a stance of collective resolve among its members.
