“The proliferation of banditry has unfortunately become a profitable enterprise, involving not only criminals but also some government officials, security agencies, and individuals responsible for community affairs,” remarked Governor Radda.
Over the years, criminal factions known as bandits have carried out numerous attacks across the northern countryside, perpetrating kidnappings and causing fatalities. Addressing this issue, President Bola Tinubu has emphasized the urgent need to tackle insecurity.
Contrary to the notion that politics fuels these security challenges, Governor Radda emphasized the pivotal roles of poverty and injustice in driving vulnerable youth into banditry. He highlighted the ease with which youths are lured into these criminal activities with as little as N500.
Regarding recent efforts by northern governors to combat insecurity, Governor Radda clarified their participation in a symposium hosted by the United States Institute of Peace. Despite criticism over the location of the meeting, Radda clarified that they were invited by the Institute to deliberate on lasting solutions to the region’s security issues.
“The symposium provided us with valuable insights into addressing insecurity. Ten governors engaged in constructive dialogue with stakeholders over three days, seeking viable solutions to the pervasive security challenges faced by our region,” explained Governor Radda.
