In a statement released by the State Commissioner for Information and Communication, Mr. Aka Eze Aka, on Wednesday, the government emphasized that there is no place for IPOB’s illegal activities in Enugu. Residents and students were urged to continue their exams and daily activities on May 30, with assurances of adequate security.

Aka expressed the government’s concern over IPOB’s directive to postpone the General Mathematics exams scheduled for May 30, a date IPOB has designated as “Biafra Heroes Day.” He stated, “We are particularly concerned about IPOB’s warning to WAEC, suggesting the day is unsafe for students in Biafra territory. This is unacceptable to us. The illegal sit-at-home orders have already negatively impacted the socio-economic life of the South East.”

Aka highlighted the severe consequences of students missing a crucial exam like mathematics, stressing that education is vital for the future of Enugu’s youth. He remarked, “Igbos excel through industry, education, and human capital development. Any action that denies children their right to education is offensive. Our founding fathers and fallen heroes, who sacrificed for Igboland, would be dismayed by such actions.”

He criticized the architects of such directives, noting that many live comfortably in societies where daily life and education continue uninterrupted. “The Enugu State Government honors the sacrifices of our forebears, who fought for our land. They envisioned a future where we thrive through education and development, not one hindered by fear and disruption.”

The government reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the future of its children, stating that WAEC, as a regional body, will not halt its operations for one area. Candidates in Enugu were advised to proceed with their exams without fear, and exam officials were encouraged to perform their duties confidently.
