The police issued a statement through the state Police Public Relations Officer, Suleiman Nguroje, highlighting the risks associated with the protest. “The Adamawa State Police Command does not support protests due to the risk of them spiraling out of control,” the statement read. The Command recently met with local stakeholders to discuss the protest and stressed that any violence, loss of life, or property damage would not be tolerated.
“The proposed nationwide protest has the potential to be hijacked by thugs and turn violent,” the statement warned, urging residents to avoid actions that could endanger themselves or others. “Please think and act wisely. Avoid any activities that could escalate into chaos.”
In related news, Folasade Tinubu-Ojo, daughter of President Bola Tinubu and Iyaloja General of Lagos State, has advised parents to prevent their children from joining the August 1 protest. In a viral video, Tinubu-Ojo called on Lagosians to support the government’s efforts and give the new administration time to address issues before making judgments.
She urged market women in Lagos to warn their children about the dangers of participating in the protest. “Let’s talk to our children and families and avoid participating in protests that could harm our community. The last protest caused significant damage,” she said in Yoruba. In English, she added, “The Lagos State government is working hard and deserves our support. Let’s allow the Federal Government some time to prove itself. Prevention is better than cure; we must avoid any loss of lives.”
