Abia PDP Downplays Defections, Vows ResilienceThe Abia State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is undergoing a robust rebranding effort following a series of defections by prominent members to other parties. This assertion comes in response to remarks made by former party chieftain Charles Ogbonnaya, who claimed that the PDP was “dead” in Abia due to the departure of key members. However, Ikpeazu expressed confidence in the party’s resilience, affirming that it will overcome its internal challenges and emerge stronger.
In a notable shift in internal politics, Ikpeazu declared an end to the era of imposition within the PDP, advocating for democratic processes where members have a say in selecting their leaders. This sentiment was echoed by Chief Austin Akobundu, the leader of the party in the state, who emphasized the upcoming rebranding as transformative, aiming to rejuvenate the party and empower youth leadership.
Rt. Hon. Asiforo Okere, the PDP state chairman, urged members to remain steadfast in their support, emphasizing that despite setbacks such as losing the 2023 governorship election, the party still commands significant backing from the populace. Additionally, acting Publicity Secretary and Vice Chairman of Abia North, Amah Abraham, acknowledged past mistakes but assured that the party remains intact and steadfast.
Abia PDP’s commitment to reorganizing and strengthening its structure underscores its determination to navigate current challenges and consolidate its position in the state’s political landscape.
