Abike Dabiri Blasts India Over ‘Inhuman’ Treatment Of Nigerians Abroad
The Chairman/CEO of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, has strongly condemned reports of sexual violence, physical assault, and intimidation allegedly perpetrated against Nigerian girls detained in deportation camps in New Delhi, India.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
In a statement released by the Director of Media, Public Relations, and Protocols, Abdur-Rahman Balogun, Dabiri-Erewa described the alleged acts of rape, abuse, and forced administration of unidentified substances as shocking, heartbreaking, and completely unacceptable.
According to her, disturbing testimonies and video evidence from some of the victims reveal inhumane treatment and gross violations of the young women’s dignity and fundamental human rights.
Dabiri-Erewa emphasized that no Nigerian, anywhere in the world, should ever be treated as less than human or subjected to exploitation under the guise of immigration procedures. She therefore urged the Indian Government to immediately investigate the allegations, dismantle all channels of exploitation, and guarantee the safety and dignity of Nigerians within its borders.
The statement further noted concerns over alleged corrupt practices involving middlemen and groups exploiting vulnerable Nigerians for extortion, warning that such acts—if confirmed—not only endanger lives but also erode justice and due process.
NiDCOM assured victims and their families that these reports will not be swept aside, stressing that the Commission is actively engaging with the Nigerian High Commission in India, Indian authorities, and international human rights bodies to verify the claims, secure urgent protection for the victims, and ensure medical and psychological support, while pursuing justice against perpetrators.
“Our thoughts are with the young women and men enduring these traumatic experiences. Nigeria stands firmly with its citizens and will never abandon them in their time of need. NiDCOM will persist until justice is served and the dignity of every Nigerian is upheld,” Dabiri-Erewa affirmed.
