Speaking in an interview with Vanguard in Umuahia, Uzoukwa — who also serves as Senior Special Assistant on Public Affairs to the Abia State Governor — criticized Abure’s disregard for the Supreme Court’s ruling, which confirmed the expiration of his tenure.

“Barrister Julius Abure is doing everything possible to remain in office, even if it means violating the Supreme Court’s clear decision. His actions are aimed at destabilizing the party to benefit certain political interests in the 2027 elections,” Uzoukwa said.

He also pointed to the controversial suspension of Governor Alex Otti as part of Abure’s alleged scheme to retain dominance over the party, calling it a response to efforts by Otti and other party leaders to liberate the LP from Abure’s grip.

Describing Abure’s conduct as chaotic and detrimental, Uzoukwa said the former chairman’s tactics are “desperate, laughable, and a pathetic bid to maintain relevance,” adding that Abure’s tenure has been characterized by crisis and the erosion of party structures.

“It is baffling that a lawyer like Abure continues to parade himself as the national chairman, issuing statements that defy judicial authority and insult democratic principles. His behavior mirrors that of a man obsessed with power,” Uzoukwa added.

He applauded the National Caretaker Committee led by Senator Nenadi Usman for its courage in summoning Abure to answer for his actions and commended Governor Otti for his leadership. Uzoukwa called Abure’s move to suspend Otti “a joke,” asserting it was part of a broader scheme to entrench himself in power.

Uzoukwa didn’t stop there—he urged the Inspector General of Police to arrest Abure for impersonation and called on INEC to implement the Supreme Court judgment to protect democratic values.

Finally, Uzoukwa praised the ongoing reform efforts within the party. “The Nenadi Usman-led Caretaker Committee has shown great commitment to restoring the Labour Party’s credibility and grassroots strength. Their work is bringing renewed hope to party members across the country,” he concluded.
