Adeleke Demands Action Against Ganduje, Asks Tinubu To Address APC LeadershipOsun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has strongly criticized Abdullahi Ganduje, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), calling him a threat to democracy. In a statement released by his media aide, Olawale Rasheed, on Monday, Adeleke condemned Ganduje’s remarks, urging President Bola Tinubu to caution the former Kano State governor. Ganduje made the controversial statement following the APC’s victory in the Ondo State governorship election.
Adeleke accused Ganduje of trying to sow political discord in the South West, a region that has largely supported President Tinubu. He suggested that Ganduje’s comments were intended to stir up tension and undermine the president’s leadership in the lead-up to the 2027 general elections.
Labeling Ganduje’s remarks as undemocratic, Adeleke pointed out that they went against Tinubu’s commitment to democratic values. He emphasized that electoral outcomes are shaped by local issues and cannot be dictated by external political forces or rhetoric.
“As an experienced politician, Dr. Ganduje should know that voter behavior is driven by local concerns and realities,” Adeleke said. “What works in Ondo or Edo does not automatically translate to success in Osun State.”
Adeleke also referenced Ganduje’s political struggles in Kano, where his faction of the APC was outpaced by the Kwankwasiyya movement despite his eight years in office. He questioned Ganduje’s assumption that a similar approach would work in Osun, a state known for its strong commitment to political freedom and resistance to electoral manipulation.
“Osun is the cultural heart of the Yoruba people, where the right to vote is fiercely protected,” Adeleke stated. “It’s perplexing that Ganduje believes the people of Osun would abandon their mandate in 2026.”
The governor also suggested that Ganduje’s actions risked destabilizing President Tinubu’s leadership by creating divisions within his home region. He urged Ganduje to focus on understanding Osun’s political dynamics instead of making statements that could lead to instability.
Adeleke pointed to recent defections from opposition parties to the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun, which he said had further strengthened the PDP’s position in the state. He dismissed Ganduje’s comments as lacking support from President Tinubu, reiterating that the South West would not tolerate attempts to incite conflict or undermine democracy.
