African Democratic Congress Faction Revolts, Rejects Opposition Consensus Candidate
A faction of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) led by Nafiu Bala Gombe has rejected calls for a unified opposition presidential candidate ahead of the 2027 general elections.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Speaking in an interview, the group distanced itself from decisions reportedly reached at the Ibadan summit, insisting it was neither represented nor bound by any agreement made there.
The stance highlights growing divisions within Nigeria’s opposition, with political parties and actors still split on how to confront President Bola Tinubu in the next election cycle.
Gombe said his faction would chart its own course and present candidates across all elective positions.
“We do not support that arrangement. As authentic members of the ADC, we are not part of any resolution taken at that meeting,” he said.
He emphasised that the ADC is an established party with nearly two decades of existence and is fully prepared to contest elections independently at all levels.
Gombe also downplayed the significance of the Ibadan summit, describing it as a gathering of former members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and dissatisfied politicians.
According to him, the ADC should not be linked to any outcome or decisions from the meeting, as it did not participate in the discussions.
