During an inspection tour on Friday, Ibas visited ongoing road projects, the damaged secretariats of local government councils, and the newly inaugurated Bori Zonal Hospital. A statement from the Government House Press Unit outlined the areas assessed, including roadworks in Khana Local Government Area, internal roads in Eleme, and the Port Harcourt Ring Road project.
Describing the level of destruction as “disheartening,” Ibas emphasized that such setbacks only delay the state’s progress, regardless of their cause.
“We owe it to the people to ensure that damaged infrastructure is restored to functional condition. With the limited resources available, we are committed to fixing most of the vandalized assets. It’s a promise we intend to keep so that those who depend on these facilities can return to work,” Ibas stated.
He also evaluated the state of the Khana and Eleme LG secretariats, stressing that the destruction of public property undermines effective governance and erodes public confidence in leadership.
Ibas called for collaboration among leaders to ensure resources allocated to local governments are properly managed, adding that restoring trust and delivering quality governance can help reduce unrest.
“The people are watching. They want transparency and accountability in how their resources are being used. When citizens are satisfied with governance, they’re less likely to resort to disruptive actions,” he noted.
Speaking on road development, Ibas highlighted that roads are crucial to economic growth. He said improved road networks enhance market access and reduce losses from spoilage of goods.
“The more roads we have, the more accessible our markets become. Without proper roads, produce goes bad before it gets to consumers. We’re working to change that and create more opportunities for wealth generation,” he explained.
Regarding the state House of Assembly complex, Ibas gave assurance that the building will be completed soon to allow lawmakers to resume full legislative functions. He stressed that his administration remains focused on delivering its promises, even within tight financial constraints.
