Gambaryan had reiterated his accusation that certain lawmakers, in collaboration with the Department of State Services (DSS), requested a $150 million bribe in cryptocurrency to secure his release.
In a statement on his X handle, Gambaryan specifically named House members Peter Akpanke, Philip Agbese, and Ginger Obinna Onwusibe as those involved in the alleged scheme.
However, in an interview with Punch, Agbese dismissed the allegations as baseless, asserting that he has no knowledge of cryptocurrency or ownership of any crypto wallet.
The Benue lawmaker explained that he only exchanged pleasantries with some visitors while visiting his colleague, Peter Akpanke, but was not part of any discussions involving financial demands. He emphasized that he never attended any meetings with Binance executives, the EFCC, or the DSS after that encounter.
Expressing outrage over the allegations, Agbese stated, “These claims by Tigran Gambaryan are entirely false. I was never involved in any meeting requesting money from Binance. The committee’s leadership has already taken legal action, and Binance has since apologized.”
He clarified that he is not a member of the House Committee on Economic and Financial Crimes and reiterated that any inquiries on the matter should be directed to the appropriate committee handling the case.
