According to reports, the aircraft was on final approach to the airport when one of its engines ignited. Responding swiftly, the pilot alerted the airport control tower, prompting immediate action from the aerodrome’s emergency response teams. Firefighters were deployed and successfully extinguished the blaze before it could escalate.
“All passengers and crew disembarked safely. There were no injuries or casualties,” police authorities confirmed.
Following the emergency landing, the aircraft was secured for inspection, and standard safety measures were activated to ensure airport operations continued without disruption.
Meanwhile, the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has grounded a Rano Air aircraft with registration number 5N-BZY due to a similar engine malfunction during a recent flight from Abuja to Katsina.
Sources revealed that the aircraft’s Engine 1 developed a fault mid-flight, leading the crew to initiate emergency protocols, including the deployment of oxygen masks. Although smoke was initially detected, it cleared before landing, and the flight landed safely.
The incident disrupted Rano Air’s flight schedule, leaving passengers, particularly those scheduled to fly from Sokoto, stranded due to flight cancellations.
A full investigation is expected from relevant aviation authorities to determine the cause of the malfunction and prevent future incidents.
