Akpabio Under Fire: Ningi Threatens Legal Action Over Reinstatement Dispute....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Senator Ahmed Ningi, representing Bauchi Central in the Senate, has formally petitioned Senate President Godswill Akpabio, demanding the immediate lifting of his suspension. Through his legal representative, Femi Falana (SAN), Ningi conveyed his ultimatum: if the suspension is not revoked within seven days, he will pursue legal recourse against the Senate.
The Senate had imposed a three-month suspension on Ningi on March 12, following his allegation that the 2024 budget was padded by N3.7 trillion. Despite defending his claims during a plenary session on the same day, Ningi was sanctioned for what the Senate deemed a baseless accusation tarnishing its reputation.
Subsequently, Ningi resigned as the Chairman of the Northern Senators’ Forum, with Senator Abdulaziz Yar’Adua assuming the role. However, two weeks post-suspension, Ningi, through Falana, challenged the validity of the suspension process, arguing it was flawed.
In the letter addressed to the Senate President, Falana highlighted constitutional infringements, asserting that Ningi’s fundamental rights to freedom of speech and fair hearing were violated. Moreover, he contended that the suspension deprived Bauchi Central of representation, contravening constitutional provisions.
Referencing previous judicial rulings, Falana stressed the illegality of parliamentary suspensions and demanded immediate reinstatement of Ningi. Failure to comply within the stipulated timeframe would prompt legal action and disciplinary measures against Akpabio.
Ningi’s letter signifies a firm stance against what he perceives as an unjust suspension, setting the stage for a potential legal showdown between him and the Senate.
