Almajiris To Be Included In Federal Government’s Educational Outreach Programs
The Federal Government has announced its intention to integrate the Almajiri system into the national school feeding program, as revealed by Dr. Yetunde Adeniji, Senior Special Assistant to the President on National Home-Grown School Feeding, during a visit to the Governor of Jigawa State.
Dr. Adeniji’s visit aimed to inform the Governor about the Federal Government’s plans to extend the national school feeding program to Almajiri schools, emphasizing President Tinubu’s commitment to ensuring adequate nutrition for schoolchildren nationwide.
Governor Umar Namadi expressed appreciation for the visit and thanked President Tinubu for agreeing to continue the program, noting its success and benefits in Jigawa State. He pledged full support for the program’s success, stating, “In Jigawa, we recognize the program’s advantages and eagerly anticipate its return.”
In another development, Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rep Benjamin Okezie Kalu, highlighted the parliament’s move to amend the Access to Higher Education Act 2023. This amendment aims to provide equal opportunities for all Nigerian children to access university education, irrespective of their economic backgrounds.
Kalu stressed the importance of addressing challenges in accessing quality education, mentioning initiatives such as the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (Tetfund) and ongoing efforts to amend the Act. He advocated for prioritizing skills acquisition over certificates and emphasized the role of technology in tackling societal issues.
Kalu called for collaboration among academia, government, and industry to drive progress and prosperity, underlining the significance of inclusivity and equity in higher education.
