Amidst Chaos, INEC Takes Action: Threatens To Cancel Bayelsa Polling Units

During a stakeholders meeting held in Yenagoa, INEC Chairman, Prof Mahmood Yakubu, conveyed this decision. Representing him at the meeting was INEC National Commissioner overseeing Akwa-Ibom.
Bayelsa, and Rivers, Mrs May Agbamuche-Mbu. Yakubu explained that INEC would deploy Biometric Voter Authentication Systems (BIVAS) to all polling units for the election.
He stated, “I would like to inform you that our BIVAS systems have been specifically tailored for INEC, with INEC’s particulars and the names of political parties integrated into them.
Therefore, any BIVAS device lacking INEC’s details cannot be considered authentic.”
Yakubu also assured that the serial numbers of all BIVAS units to be used have been documented, and the result sheets would be endorsed at the polling units.
He emphasized that in the event of violence, the election would not be conducted again at that specific polling unit.
INEC has thoroughly trained ad-hoc staff and distributed non-sensitive materials to all eight local government offices in the state, and voter education and awareness campaigns are ongoing.
