This decision was made after the House considered and accepted the report submitted by the Ad-hoc Committee responsible for reviewing the House’s Standing Orders during a plenary session held on Tuesday.
Furthermore, the House endorsed a recommendation from the report, allowing Committee chairpersons to include new members in their Committees without requiring explicit authorization from the Speaker.
Among the other amendments approved by the House are provisions for emergency sessions, an increase in the number of matters of urgent public importance to be discussed during plenary from a minimum of two to three on each plenary date, and the establishment of a constitutional framework for parliamentary friendship groups.
Chairing the discussion of the report, Hon. Igariwey Enwo, Chairman of the Ad-hoc Committee, explained that these amendments are designed to provide guidance for the structure and duration of the 10th House of Representatives.
