In a phone interview with AIT on Thursday, ICPC spokesperson Demola Bakare clarified that Ngige was simply invited for questioning concerning activities during his tenure as minister.

Bakare explained that Ngige was questioned and released afterward, with instructions to return at a later date for further questioning. He stressed that at no point was Ngige arrested and urged the public to disregard any false reports to the contrary.

Bakare also advised journalists to verify their facts before publication to prevent the spread of misinformation.

Earlier reports from Naija News stated that Ngige spent about five hours on Wednesday answering questions from ICPC detectives regarding certain contracts awarded under the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF) during his tenure.

Ngige’s questioning follows ICPC’s ongoing investigation into NSITF. The agency had previously summoned top officials of NSITF over the payment of ₦47 million in gratuity to former NSITF Managing Director, Mrs. Maureen Allagoa, while she was still in office.

Additionally, it was revealed that Ngige’s successor, Simon Lalong, had set up a committee to investigate irregularities involving contracts worth ₦1.8 billion within NSITF.
