APC Forum Fires Back: Calls For Tinubu To Drop Shettima In 2027 Are Just Peter Obi’s Supporters’ Agenda
The North-Central All Progressives Congress (APC) Forum has cautioned President Bola Tinubu that he risks losing up to 80% of northern Muslim votes if he drops Vice President Kashim Shettima in the 2027 elections.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
The warning was issued in a statement on Saturday by the forum’s Chairman, Saleh Zazzaga, in Abuja. Zazzaga, who also served on the APC campaign council for the 2023 elections, emphasized that the Muslim-Muslim ticket was a strategic move to secure electoral victory and does not marginalize Christians or followers of other religions.
The forum urged Tinubu to retain Shettima as his running mate in 2027 to ensure continued electoral success.
“The Muslim-Muslim ticket will not undermine President Tinubu’s prospects in the North-Central region, given the key positions held by Middle Belt Christians in the APC government. We are confident he will secure 90% of votes from the North-Central. His achievements in office will further strengthen his reelection bid,” the statement said.
The forum also argued that those advocating for the removal of Shettima did not support Tinubu in 2023 and are unlikely to back him in 2027, even if their demand is met.
“Those pushing for a change of Vice President on account of the Muslim-Muslim ticket largely voted for Peter Obi in 2023. If Peter Obi contests again in 2027, what assurance is there that these communities will shift their support to Tinubu even if Shettima is replaced by a Christian?” the statement questioned.
Accusing critics of mischief, the forum claimed that their campaign against Shettima and the ticket aims to undermine Tinubu’s reelection chances.
“We advise Mr. President not to gamble with the formula that worked in 2023. Dropping Shettima could cost him 80% of northern Muslim votes. Even replacing him with another northern Muslim may result in vote losses. The safest approach is to maintain the status quo,” the statement concluded.
