According to reports, the soldiers, along with an officer from the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and others, were captured on charges related to armed robbery, hijacking of food trucks, and diverting the stolen goods to various locations.
Providing insights into the arrests through a statement released to the press on Monday, Grace Iringe-Koko, the police spokesperson in the state, detailed that the apprehensions stemmed from a thorough investigation initiated after the initial apprehension of suspects involved in a burglary at a private warehouse in Elimgbu community, Ohio/Akpor LGA.
Among the initial suspects were a corporal from the Nigerian Army stationed in Delta State and an NSCDC officer stationed in Kabba, Kogi State.
The detained security personnel confessed to abandoning their official duties to engage in criminal activities within Rivers State. Further investigations uncovered a broader criminal network involved in armed robbery, truck hijackings, and the diversion of goods.
This network was reportedly responsible for seizing trailers transporting various items, including fertilizers, imported clothing, and POP cement. Authorities managed to recover the stolen goods along with a white Toyota Hilux used by the gang during their operations.
Furthermore, Iringe-Koko disclosed that the four soldiers implicated had been discharged from the Nigerian Army and handed over to the police for appropriate legal action
