Atiku Condemns Brutal Attack On Village Head And Residents In Niger State, Calls For Urgent Action On State Policing

Atiku Abubakar, the former vice president and presidential hopeful of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) during the 2023 general elections, has expressed strong condemnation over the recent bandit attack that resulted in the tragic death of a village head and several residents in Rafi Local Government Area of Niger State.

Addressing the assault in a statement shared on his official social media account on Friday, Atiku lamented the alarming escalation of violence, branding Nigeria as a ‘killing field’. He emphasized the urgent need to expedite the implementation of state police.

“It is deeply disheartening that Nigeria is now a landscape of relentless bloodshed. The events of Thursday, wherein numerous individuals lost their lives, including the village head, and an unspecified number were abducted by suspected bandits in Madaka, Rafi Local Government Area of Niger State, serve as yet another stark reminder that despite assurances, insecurity remains rampant in our nation,” remarked Atiku.

He stressed the imperative to prioritize security and hasten the constitutional amendment process aimed at establishing State Police. Atiku advocated for empowering states and local authorities to deploy tailored security measures conducive to their respective environments, addressing the multifaceted insecurity plaguing the nation.

“My heartfelt condolences and prayers go out to the grieving families, as well as the government and people of Niger State,” Atiku expressed.

Earlier reports from Naija News detailed the devastating bandit assault on Thursday, resulting in the tragic loss of at least 21 lives, including the village head, in Madaka community, Rafi Local Government Area of Niger State.
