Speaking from his Abuja residence in an interview with Punch, Lawal disclosed that Atiku abruptly changed the event date without informing him, making his attendance impossible.

He said, “My absence was due to poor planning on the part of the former vice president. We agreed the ceremony would hold on Sunday, so I travelled to Yola for the event, only for Atiku to shift it to Monday.”

Lawal, who expressed frustration over the last-minute adjustment, said the sudden change disrupted his personal schedule.

“I have my own activities and commitments. You cannot suddenly change plans mid-course and expect me to adjust immediately,” he noted.

The former SGF also warned Atiku that his absence could trigger political misinterpretations, but said the former PDP presidential candidate—now an ADC member—ignored his concerns.

“I told Atiku that my absence would be misread by many people regarding our new party, but he dismissed my advice,” Lawal stated.

Distancing himself from the revised programme, he added, “Let them go ahead with the event with his people.”
