The Benue State Police Command has issued a stern warning to motorists and vehicle owners in the state regarding the practice of covering vehicle number plates. The command emphasized that any vehicle or motorcycle found with its number plate obscured would face impoundment.

In an official statement titled “Ban on covering of motor vehicle/motorcycle number plate in Benue State,” issued by the command’s spokesperson, Catherine Anene, it was declared unequivocally that this action constitutes an offense and will not be tolerated within the state.

The statement highlighted the significant security threat posed by the widespread practice of covering number plates, as it provides an opportunity for criminals to evade detection and perpetrate crime.

Commissioner of Police Hassan Yabanet has instructed all Area Commanders, Tactical Commanders, and Divisional Police Officers to take immediate action to impound vehicles with covered number plates for further investigation and prosecution.

Motorists have been strongly advised to ensure that their vehicle registration number plates remain clearly visible at all times while driving within the state to avoid any inconvenience resulting from enforcement measures.
