Onamade, who was contesting for the Ijede Local Council Development Area (LCDA) chairmanship, was shot and hacked to death on Saturday, March 8, 2025.

His brother, Oluwafemi Onamade, revealed to Punch that the assailants had been tracking the deceased before the fatal attack.

Femi, who previously survived a similar attack alongside his brother, disclosed that the gunmen resorted to using machetes when their bullets initially failed to penetrate Onamade’s body.

“It happened around 9 pm on Saturday. Two gunmen dressed in black carried out the attack, making it difficult to recognize them. His aide fled upon hearing gunshots. They shot and macheted him right in front of his house on Oluwatosin Onamade Street, Ijede—a street named after him,” he recounted.

“They fired shots at him. When the bullets didn’t pierce immediately, they attacked his head and face with machetes,” he added.

Femi further recalled that his brother had survived a similar assassination attempt in 2021, and some of the perpetrators from that incident were still in prison awaiting judgment.

“Back in 2021, they attempted an attack but couldn’t gain access to my compound. Instead, they vandalized my campaign banners across the community. They also stormed the APC secretariat in Ijede LCDA and destroyed the big box banner I had erected there,” he said.
