The restructuring is intended to strengthen the outfit’s role in the state’s security framework, particularly in combating banditry and other criminal activities across Zamfara.
In a statement issued by the Senior Special Assistant on Media to the Secretary to the State Government, Suleman Ahmad Tudu, the government highlighted that Dalijan brings over 30 years of experience in policing, security management, and leadership to the position.
The statement noted that the retired AIG has extensive expertise in community-based policing, counter-terrorism, and internal security management.
“Dr. Dalijan served as Commissioner of Police in Zamfara State from 2023 to 2025 and is well-acquainted with the state’s security terrain and unique challenges,” the statement read.
Dalijan has held several key positions nationwide, including Police Component Commander of Operation Lafiya Dole in the North-East, Deputy Commandant of the Police College, Kaduna, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operations) in Rivers State, and Coordinator of Operation Restore Peace in the South-South region.
Until his retirement in June 2025, he was the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Counter-Terrorism at the Force Headquarters in Abuja.
He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology from Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto, as well as Master’s and Doctorate degrees in Criminology from the University of Abuja.
Governor Lawal expressed confidence that Dalijan’s experience and familiarity with Zamfara’s security landscape will help reposition the Community Protection Guards to effectively fulfil its mandate in line with the administration’s security and rescue agenda.
The governor also commended the immediate past Commandant for his service, prayed for his speedy recovery, and assured him of the government’s continued support.
