Waiya noted that the governor acted after discovering that an earlier promise of support had not been fulfilled, adding that the visit was to honour that commitment.

He described the attack as tragic, revealing that 16 people lost their lives while 13 others were injured after being attacked by a mob while returning to the North.

The commissioner also disclosed that efforts are ongoing to ensure the Edo State Government pays its own compensation, adding that a dedicated account has already been set up for that purpose.

He expressed optimism that the compensation would be released soon and assured affected families that both state governments are working towards providing support and ensuring justice.

Most of the victims were hunters from Kano who were attacked in Uromi after being mistaken for kidnappers while travelling home for the Sallah celebration.
