The development was made public on Monday through a statement issued by his Special Assistant on Media, Johnson Okoye, titled “Moghalu Resigns Membership of Labour Party.”
According to the statement, Moghalu communicated his decision in a letter dated January 26, 2026, which he personally signed and submitted to the Labour Party chairman of his ward in Uruagu, Nnewi, Anambra State.
The former Managing Director of the National Inland Waterways Authority did not give any specific reason for his decision to leave the party.
In his resignation letter, Moghalu expressed gratitude to the Labour Party at the ward, state, and national levels for granting him the opportunity to contest the November 2025 off-cycle governorship election.
The resignation, which took immediate effect, was conveyed in a respectful tone, with Moghalu acknowledging the support and cooperation he received from party leaders and members throughout the campaign period.
“I extend the warm greetings of my family and write to formally notify you of my resignation from the Labour Party, effective January 26, 2026,” the letter read.
He added, “I sincerely thank the party, through you, for giving me the platform to contest the last governorship election in our state.”
Moghalu concluded by asking that his appreciation be conveyed to party members, assuring them of his continued goodwill.
As of the time of this report, he has not indicated his next political step or whether he plans to join another political party.
