The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has constituted a 20-member National Selection Committee to screen governorship and National Assembly aspirants ahead of its upcoming primaries.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The development was announced in a statement issued on Friday by the party’s National Secretary, Barrister Ikenna Morgan Enekweizu.

According to the statement, the decision was approved by the party’s National Leader based on recommendations from the NWC as preparations for the primaries gather momentum.

The party explained that the initiative is aimed at strengthening transparency, internal democracy, and credible candidate selection within its ranks. It added that the National Selection Committee will be formally inaugurated on Monday, May 25, 2026, and is expected to commence work immediately after inauguration.

The committee is tasked with reviewing and evaluating reports from the National Screening Committee, as well as making final determinations on the screening outcomes of all aspirants seeking to contest under the party’s platform.

The National Chairman of the party, Moses Zuwoghe, will serve as chairman of the committee, while Barrister Ikenna Enekweizu will act as secretary. Other members include notable political figures such as Buba Galadima, Yunusa Tanko, Udenta Udenta, Aminu Abdulsalam, and Alhaji Mohammed Bakin Zuwo, among others.

The statement further emphasized that the party remains committed to a transparent and credible selection process, urging aspirants, stakeholders, and members to remain patient and cooperative as the process unfolds within tight timelines.

It noted that only aspirants cleared by both the National Screening Committee and the National Selection Committee will be eligible to purchase nomination forms.

Where consensus is not achieved, the party said it will proceed with direct primaries scheduled for May 28 to 30, 2026, in line with its guidelines.

The NDC reaffirmed its commitment to producing credible candidates through a fair and inclusive process aimed at strengthening unity and improving its electoral prospects.
