In a verdict rendered on Tuesday, the Abuja Division of the Court of Appeal upheld the election victories of Aminu Tambuwal and Aliyu Wamakko, both former governors of Sokoto State, as Senators representing Sokoto South and Sokoto North, respectively.

Aminu Tambuwal, who contested under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and served as the immediate past governor, faced a challenge to his election from Ibrahim Danbaba, the former senator representing the district. Similarly, Aliyu Wamakko was contested by Manir Dan’iya, the immediate past deputy governor of the state.

The three-judge panel, led by Justice Mustapha Muhammad, delivered separate judgments. The court dismissed Ibrahim Danbaba’s petition against Tambuwal and imposed a fine of N500,000 against the petitioner, favoring the defendants and the PDP.

Suleiman Usman, one of the lead counsels for the defendants and the PDP, confirmed the outcomes, stating that Tambuwal’s election was affirmed, and a fine was awarded against the petitioner. Additionally, the court dismissed the petitions filed on behalf of the former deputy governor, Manir Dan’iya, against Aliyu Wamakko. A fine, the details of which were not immediately recalled by Usman, was imposed against their client in favor of the defendant in this case.
