Breaking News: Gunmen Kidnap 10 Students from Nasarawa University

In the early hours of Thursday, bandits kidnapped at least 10 students from the Federal University of Lafia, Nasarawa State, in the Gandu community situated approximately two kilometers from the institution.

A resident in the area, who requested anonymity, informed PUNCH Metro that the gunmen raided the student community opposite the university’s permanent site around 2 am on Thursday, firing shots into the air, causing students to scramble for safety.

The source, emotionally recounting the ordeal, stated that the operation lasted about two hours.

Speaking to journalists in Lafia about the incident, the Public Relations Officer of the University, Abubakar Ibrahim, mentioned that the exact number of abducted students had yet to be determined. He said, “It is too early to ascertain the exact number of students because those affected are not living within the school, but off-campus.”

Meanwhile, students from the university staged a peaceful protest, calling for an end to the recurring kidnappings of their fellow students. Despite several plans by the state government and security agencies to prevent further attacks on the institution, kidnappers have continued their activities without hindrance.

When contacted, the spokesperson for the state Police command, DSP Ramhan Nansel, stated that the details of the kidnapping were still unclear. He said, “This kidnapping details are sketchy. The command has tried to get facts and the identity of the victims, but to no avail, thus we are finding it difficult to authenticate.”
