The policy meeting, attended by heads of tertiary institutions and stakeholders, serves as a crucial platform for establishing admissions criteria for the country’s higher education institutions.

Oloyede disclosed that the Board has managed to regularize the admissions of 600,000 of these students. He highlighted that a significant number of these illegally admitted students lack the necessary qualifications for the courses they enrolled in.

“More than 1 million students were admitted illegally,” Oloyede stated.

In a related development, Minister of Education, Professor Tahir Mamman, announced during the same policy meeting that individuals under the age of eighteen will no longer be eligible for admission into Nigerian tertiary institutions.

The Minister emphasized that this decision aligns with Nigeria’s legislation, which prohibits the admission of underage students into tertiary education. He stressed the importance of strictly adhering to this guideline, prohibiting the recommendation of anyone below 18 years old for admission.
