Air Commodore Edward Gabkwet, the Director of Public Relations and Information for NAF, released a statement on Sunday in Abuja, providing details of the operation. The terrorists, including Yellow Jambros, were targeted while attempting to cross the Jikudna River in Galadima Kogo District, en route to the Wurukuvhi axis of Chikun LGA.

According to Gabkwet, Yellow Jambros and his group were tracked from Zamfara into Niger, riding 13 motorcycles along the Kaduna-Niger State border toward Kusasu in Shiroro. Upon reaching Kusasu, five more motorcycle-riding terrorists joined the convoy, totaling 18 motorcycles, heading to the bank of the River Jikudna.

At the river bank, the terrorists and their motorcycles boarded a large motor-powered canoe to cross the river and link up with other terrorists on the opposite side. The airstrike authorization was given at this critical moment.

The precision strike proved effective, neutralizing Yellow Jambros and his associates, destroying their motorcycles, and sinking the boat. The NAF spokesperson noted that despite the unusual daytime movement of terrorists in a convoy of 18 motorcycles, Yellow Jambros and his group likely assumed a suspension of airstrikes following a prior incident in Tudun Biri, Kaduna State.

Yellow Jambros and his cohorts were notorious for multiple kidnappings and killings along the Abuja-Kaduna Road and in various communities across Kaduna, Niger, Katsina, and Zamfara States. The statement also mentioned that a kidnapping kingpin, Mohammed Sani, arrested in Zamfara in October 2020, claimed to work for Yellow Jambros and was responsible for over 50 murders due to victims’ inability to pay ransom.
