Speaking to PUNCH Online on Sunday, residents highlighted the adverse impact of the deteriorating road conditions on their daily lives, health, and businesses. The road in question connects Ogun and Lagos State through the Agbara Industrial Area route and hosts one of the state-owned tertiary institutions. While some sections of the road have undergone reconstruction, a considerable portion remains in a deplorable state.
A resident named Adekunle Kabir lamented the government’s apparent indifference to the community’s predicament, stating, “Every day on this road is like going through hell. All roads leading to our area are bad. From Sango to Agbara to Owode, the roads are not good at all.”
A commercial motorcyclist, identified as Rahman, who operates in the Atan to Lusada areas, revealed the toll the road has taken on his health and his motorcycle. He described the road as filled with potholes and mud, leading to physical discomfort and difficulties in resuming work the next day.
Iya Ibeji, a trader in the Lusada community, emphasized that the poor state of the road has adversely affected business activities, hampering the socioeconomic development of the community. She urged the government to expedite the completion of the road to enhance business prospects and generate revenue for the state.
Efforts to obtain a response from the state Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Ade Akinsanya, were unsuccessful as calls and messages to his line went unanswered at the time of filing this report.
