BREAKING: Rivers State Executive Council Approves Proposed N800bn 2024 Budget Named “Budget of Renewed Hope, Consolidation And Continuity”

The Rivers State Executive Council has given its nod to an estimated budget of N800 billion for the state government in the fiscal year 2024. The approved budget, christened “Budget of Renewed Hope, Consolidation and Continuity,” was a subject of deliberation at the 5th council meeting, presided over by Governor Siminalayi Fubara at the Executive Chambers of the Government House in Port Harcourt. According to Joseph Johnson, the Commissioner for Information and Communications, the approved projection allocates about N412 billion for capital expenditure and N361 billion for recurrent expenditure. He highlighted that the budget, outlined in an 83-page document, places a strong emphasis on infrastructure, education, health, and security.

In a briefing to newsmen after the meeting, Johnson stated, ‘Essentially, the budget is focused on some key areas, with infrastructure taking the lead with N128 billion of the budget, followed by education, health, and security.’

Tammy Danagogo, the Secretary to the Rivers State Government (SSG), emphasized that the estimated budget aims to instill renewed hope among the people of Rivers State, ensuring the continual harvest of projects and human capital development. He noted, ‘We approved an estimated budget of N800,392,485,433 kobo, which we believe, by the time it gets to the state House of Assembly, the public will be made to see and understand all the projections and fundamentals.’
