This development was announced in a report by the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) on Wednesday.
The policy enforces updated procurement standards across all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs), mandating a preference for Nigerian-made products and services in all government-related purchases.
According to the announcement, Tinubu’s approval followed a proposal from Dr. Adebowale Adedokun, Director-General of the Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP). The initiative aligns with the broader objectives of the president’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
“The specifics of the policy’s implementation will be outlined by Dr. Adebowale A. Adedokun, FCIPS, CMILT, ACFE, the Director-General of the BPP,” the presidential statement read.
It’s worth recalling that on May 3, 2025, Naija News reported President Tinubu’s order banning the import of goods that can be manufactured domestically—further demonstrating his commitment to promoting local industry and reducing dependence on foreign products.
Meanwhile, Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairman and CEO of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), has urged Nigerians living abroad to embrace and support the Nigeria First Policy.
In a statement released on May 8, 2025, and signed by the Commission’s Director of Media, Public Relations, and Protocols, Abdur-Rahman Balogun, Dabiri-Erewa emphasized the importance of diaspora engagement in the national development process.
In a video address, she highlighted that the presidential directive seeks to center Nigeria’s interests in all government procurement efforts, promote homegrown innovation, and uplift locally produced goods. According to her, the policy represents a pivotal shift that demands the active involvement of Nigerians both within the country and across the globe.
