CAF Breaks Silence On Free Entry Controversy As Super Eagles Face Tunisia
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has debunked claims that spectators will be granted free access to stadiums at the ongoing 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Reports had circulated that CAF, in collaboration with the Local Organising Committee, had approved free entry in response to low turnout at some match venues. Although games involving the host country have attracted large crowds, attendance at several other fixtures has been sparse, sparking the speculation.
CAF has now clarified that no such decision was taken, stressing that ticket sales will continue as normal for all matches until the tournament concludes.
The championship continues today with four fixtures on the schedule, including a highly anticipated Group encounter between Nigeria’s Super Eagles and Tunisia’s Carthage Eagles.
Speaking ahead of the match, Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle expressed strong confidence in the quality of the competition, suggesting that AFCON now matches — and in some respects exceeds — the standard of certain European leagues.
At a press briefing on Friday, the former Mali international highlighted the need for Africa to invest more in coaching development and football structures, urging stakeholders to manage the game with greater professionalism across the continent.
A win for Nigeria against Tunisia would place the Super Eagles at the top of their group and secure early passage to the knockout stage, heightening the stakes of the clash.
Nigeria will rely on the attacking firepower of Victor Osimhen, Ademola Lookman, Samuel Chukwueze and Akor Adams to make the difference, having opened their campaign with a 2–0 victory over Tanzania through goals from Semi Ajayi and Lookman, despite Osimhen’s missed chances.
