The group further alleged that some recently retired senior and management staff of the oil company, in collaboration with what they referred to as “idle lawyers and other hired individuals,” are orchestrating attacks against Mele Kyari and another high-ranking executive, Umar Ajiya.
In a press release signed by Sabiu Ibrahim, the Chairman of MAN, the lawyers’ coalition, led by Adesina Bernard, was characterized as “troublemakers following the agenda of a few retired NNPC officials as part of a restructuring effort to revitalize the company.”
Ibrahim, in his statement, labeled the group of lawyers opposing Kyari as “unscrupulous individuals who are working against the highly proactive management team of Kyari and Ajiya, known for their efforts in exposing large-scale oil refineries operated by major offenders in the country.”
He went on to question the alignment of the Coalition of Lawyers: “Where does the Coalition of Lawyers stand? Are they siding with individuals who profited from working under the Kyari/Ajiya management team but recently retired to allow for a legitimate transition? Or are they supporting the major offenders running illegal refineries? Why are they openly opposing the transparent management of NNPC, in which all Nigerians are now considered equal stakeholders?”
