Chaos On The Water: Helicopter Crash Sparks Urgent Response In The Heart OF New York

A helicopter plunged into New York’s Hudson River on Thursday afternoon, triggering a rapid response from emergency marine units.
According to reports, the New York Police Department (NYPD) confirmed the crash but did not immediately provide information on casualties. Images from the scene showed the helicopter’s skids jutting above the waterline near the West Side Highway, as multiple rescue boats surrounded the crash site.
Emergency personnel swiftly mobilized, rescuing at least four people from the river. The victims were reportedly transported to a hospital in New Jersey, NBC4 reported, citing law enforcement sources present at the scene.
The incident took place close to the West Side Highway and Spring Street — a busy part of Manhattan — raising concerns over potential traffic congestion and emergency access.
This latest crash occurred in the same river made famous by the 2009 “Miracle on the Hudson,” when a US Airways flight safely landed in the water, saving all 155 people on board.
The NYPD urged the public to prepare for significant delays in the area.
“Due to a helicopter crash in the Hudson River, in the vicinity of the West Side Highway and Spring Street, expect emergency vehicles and traffic delays,” the department announced.
A Fire Department spokesperson confirmed they received an emergency call at 3:17 PM local time (1917 GMT) reporting a helicopter in the water, though further details on the cause or circumstances remain unclear.
