Jianchun stressed that foundational investments in essentials such as food, housing, security, and education are pivotal for fostering prosperity within a country.

Jianchun’s remarks were delivered during the launch of the Hausa edition of the book “Up and Out of Poverty,” authored by the current Chinese President, Xi Jinping.

The event also included a China-Nigeria seminar on governance and took place in Abuja.

The ambassador highlighted the significance of Xi Jinping’s efforts in eradicating extreme poverty in China within a decade. Jinping’s approach focused on addressing two basic needs (food and clothing) and three guarantees (compulsory education, basic medical care, and safe housing).

Jianchun underscored the importance of a robust educational sector in propelling a nation forward. He urged Nigeria to address its educational challenges to uplift its citizens out of poverty.

Similarly, he encouraged the country to tackle its healthcare issues to make substantial progress in the fight against poverty.

George Akume, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, also addressed the gathering, noting that the book’s launch was timely.

He pointed out that approximately 80 million out of Nigeria’s 200 million population live below the poverty line, particularly in the northern regions.

Akume stated that the availability of the book in Hausa, one of Nigeria’s major languages, would allow the nation to benefit from China’s growth and development.
