The principals are now considering the possibility of shutting down schools unless the alleged decision, which seems to be an attempt to collect over N20 million from 489 principals and 25 Chief Inspectors of Education (CIEs), is reversed.

Reportedly, the commissioner established an education monitoring taskforce team, led by an individual named Tony Edah, to enforce the payment of the N20,000 for the governor’s portrait by all principals in the state before the end of the month.

Efforts to contact Ezewu through phone calls and messages were unsuccessful.

Sources indicate that the monitoring taskforce team and the principals recently convened at Osubi Grammar School to discuss the issue. It was discovered that the commissioner had appointed an individual named Israel Akpokeri within the ministry to communicate the necessity of compliance to the principals and CIEs.

This situation has escalated into a disagreement and confusion, particularly when it was revealed that Ezewu established the monitoring taskforce team without the involvement of the ministry.
