The Nasarawa State High Court in Doma, presided over by Justice Abdullahi Hassan Shams Shama, issued the injunction, effectively halting the PDP’s congress activities in the state. The court granted the request for substituted service and scheduled the next hearing for October 3, 2024.
The lawsuit includes prominent figures such as Senator Suleiman Asonya Adokwe, Michael Abdul, Nuhu Angbazo, Musa Elayo, and Abdulkarim Usman Ombamas, alongside other PDP members from the state.
In a related development, a Federal High Court in Abuja has also prohibited the PDP, including its Governors, the National Working Committee (NWC), and the Board of Trustees (BoT), from interfering with or disbanding the Executive Committee in Rivers State. This Executive Committee comprises loyalists of Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory and a former governor, who is currently in conflict with the sitting Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara.
In a ruling on Wednesday, the Abuja court further restrained the PDP’s Governors, NWC, and BoT from establishing temporary committees to assume leadership roles at the state, local government, and ward levels in Rivers State. Justice Peter Lifu emphasized that the PDP’s national body and associated entities must not disrupt or dissolve the leadership of the PDP in Rivers State, which was elected during the recent party congress.
